Hats & Caps – Vegan Shopping & Its Pitfalls

Hats come in just about any shape or form, and the equivalent materials are just as diverse.

One thing to keep in mind about fedoras is that felt is not vegan, although there are vegan felt alternatives, including those made from RPET.

Baseball caps are usually made of wool, and more recently acrylic or polyester. Sometimes the embroidery is made out of cotton or some combination of fabrics.

Cold winters require the hats to be a little thicker and warmer. Beanies are typically made from some combination of cotton, wool or polyester, oftentimes with a fur lining.

Baker boy hats may be made of animal leather, other stylish hats may also contain silk, but these ingredients are indicated on the labels.

Little tags on hats and similar can also be made of animal leather, so make sure to check these as well. Obvious non-vegan headwear is traditional ones sewed from the fur of foxes and other unfortunate animals.

Non-vegan materials:

Animal Leather, Felt, Fur, Wool

Vegan options include:

Acrylic, Cotton, Microfiber, Polyester, RPET, Felt, Straw, Waxed Cotton
