Beanies & Scarves - Vegan Shopping & Its Pitfalls

Winter essentials are packed with animal products, so make sure to be cautious.

Most winter items have traditionally been made of wool, however these days it’s easier than ever to find vegan winter essentials. The conventional materials used include acrylic and cotton. All the fabrics involved are listed on the label.

Beanies will typically be made from acrylic, polyester, and cotton. Be careful about the pompoms on top as those can be made of fur.

Headbands are also made primarily of acrylic, elastane, and polyester.

Scarves are made of acrylic, polyamide, polyester, and rayon/viscose.

Small logos on Beanies are also occasionally made of animal leather, so make sure to double-check those and any fur or fur looking additions.
